Postal code database
The Swedish Postalcode Database - PDB
Postcode database is not a normal address database in the sense we usually mean, namely that the database contains a number of addresses to people, companies or even addresses to a location or property.
Postcode Database, or PDB is a database that is primarily designed to determine the administrative postcode for addresses to facilitate and streamline the delivery of letters and parcels. PDB does not seek to describe the geographic areas - wether political or cartographic.
The postal code is often determined based on how mail delivery routes is laid. Factors such as one way streets, mal routes and districts often affects what postcode a street or area gets.
The addresses in PDB are not stored as singular addresses, eg STORGATAN 1, but as entire streets or range of streets if it has several zip codes. For example:
STORGATAN 1-19, 171 53 STOCKHOLM
STORGATAN 21-39, 171 54 STOCKHOLM
STORGATAN 2-40, 171 53 STOCKHOLM
